Trifilli – or where our name comes from
The Greek holder of the Nobel-price for Literature, Odyseas Elitis, has written fantastic poems. Many of them were set to music – like “gardens of love” – one of them is named (in transcription) “To Thalassino Trifilli“. In English: The Sea clover – that’s we are named after:
The Sea Clover:
Once in every thousand years
Spirits from out of the sea
Amid clusters of dark seaweed
Amid pebbles coloured green
Go planting and leave growing
Before daybreak and night’s over
Go enchanting and leave growing
The sea clover the sea clover
Whoever finds it never dies
Whoever finds it never dies
Once in every thousand years
The nightingales sing strangely clear
Neither do they laugh nor weep
Just repeat just repeat
Once in every thousand years
Love comes to last eternally
Fortune may your fortune shine
And may you chance upon that time
And from the skies above
May it bring you love
The sea clover the sea clover
Who will find and bring it to me
The sea clover the sea clover
